Mariyn started softball camp today. I had so much fun watching her. She practiced her little heart out for 3 hours. She came home and told her dad how much fun she had. It was awesome.
We were all in the living room tonight, when Mariyn asked me to go for a run with her. We ran to her school and back, looping around our neighborhood. It was just over 1 mile. Mariyn ran the whole time and did not complain. She enjoyed it. How many 8 year olds, like to run? Mine does :) Ok, well, she is almost 9 but still. Make my heart happy to know I'm giving her a good example and habbits for a healthy, active lifestyle.
When Amelia, my 4 year old, heard we were going running, she wanted to go too. I knew she couldn't make the whole mile, so I told her we would take her when we got back. She was a little dissappointed. But that was short lived when we got back home and she was ready to go. I wasn't sure how far Amelia could run, so I figured at most we would run/walk around our block. At least, down the street. Amelia, ran all around our entire block. It's nearly a half mile! We sang our ABC's and counted the whole way. She was very cute and had lots of fun.
I know everyone is proud of their kids (or should be) but it really does give me a lot of joy to see them engage in an active lifestyle. It makes me feel as if I'm doing something right, even if I am still over weight. I'm giving them a love for fitness that will help them live longer, happier and healthier throughout their life. My heart is full <3
My struggles, inspirations and journey to weightless or just weigh less and meet my health goals. All while dealing with the ups and downs of daily life and rediscovering my faith along the way. Ps 27:14 Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.

Being Supportive
I've come so far in my own fitness journey that people everywhere are noticing. Not only are they noticing they are asking the famous question, "How did you do it?" or as you can imagine the many versions of it.
I have no big secrets only common sense: eat less, move more and stay committed. Whenever most people hear my response and find out it wasn't some fancy miracle quick solution, they are no longer interested in trying it for themselves. The excuses start, I don't have time to exercise. I don't like to eat that. I can't run. I've even heard, I don't mind exercising but I don't want to get all sweaty.
One of the biggest negative nelly's in my journey has been my sister. I love her dearly, but she is overweight. She's has struggled with her weight her entire life. Last year when I started exercising I'd invite her along but she would never come. Rarely, if ever has she acknowledged my weight loss. I would be dishonest if I said it didn't hurt my feelings. My sister is one of the most kind hearted people I know. She has two beautiful children whom I love dearly and I know she wants a better life for them, a healthier more active life. She came and watched my triathlon last month. I think it was that weekend, that she realized I had really changed my life.
The last couple of weeks, she has been asking me more and more questions about how I got started. What did I do, what was it like and genuinely interested in hearing the responses. Her work is promoting exercise and have several gyms offering promotions to them. Last week, she decided to join my gym. She sounded excited. One night she came over and I went through my closet and gave her some of my old clothes that no longer fit, including warm up outfits and workout clothes.
Tonight, we went to the gym together, for her first time. She called me so I could meet her there. I put my kids in the childcare and called her to find out where she was because I hadn't seen her yet. I was shocked, when I heard her reply on the elliptical. I was shocked that she was driven enough to start without me. The gym can be very intimidating, the atmosphere, the impressively fit members, the whole process. We did 20 minutes together on the elliptical. I could tell it was a struggle for her but she made it through. Then I gave her a tour of the gym and we worked out for about another 20 minutes in the women's only section. My focus was making sure my sister got a good workout and felt comfortable. I introduced her to as many people as I could, so she would feel welcomed and supported. I'm very proud of her, and even though her workout might not have been as strenuous as mine normally are, hers was just as intense for her. And honestly, I have to say that it feels so good to be a positive influence to her.
After the gym, I made dinner for my family: baked chicken, asparagus and brown rice. Yum.
Then, Mariyn and I went for a run. Since completing 20 laps at the jog a thon, she and I had talked about her running more with me at home. She hasn't really gone running with me since she finished her run this Spring. Since she ran/walked for 30 minutes at the jog-a-thon I knew she could at least do a lap here with me and we could build on it. She wants to do a race with mommy but I want her to be able to complete the whole 5K. I don't mind not getting a PR if I'm running with my kid. Teaching her to enjoy activity is worth way more than a PR. So tonight, we ran/walked 2 miles together. She probably ran half. She complained a lot but felt so good when she finished. I'm so proud of my girl!

Weekend + Weigh In
Oye Vey the weekend! I didn't work out at all, which is normal for me. I like to take the weekend off and just be with the family. We're usually do something active but it's a fun activity. This weekend, we ended up going camping. It's hunting season (archery) so Rich has been going hunting every chance he gets and he really wanted us to go along. Reluctantly, I decided to go last minute this weekend. I had a really good time with our family, plus my mom and Tom. Before I headed out of town, I had to get some food. We stopped at Raley's, I bought two packs of cookies, one mixed pack with chocolate chips and sprinkles (they were huge), and the other sugar cookie with frosting - YUM! It probably wasn't the best buy because I was hungry when I went into the store and I thought I could just have a few and eat them while camping and share with the fam. Umm... no I ate half the frosted cookies on the drive up! Pretty much set the pace for the whole weekend - bad eating choices. We took the girls on one long hike while we were there and the rest of the time I hung around camp with the kids. Mariyn got a lot of practice in with her bow and I enjoyed shooting it too. I think we really needed the family time because Rich has been working so much. We got home late Sunday night and ate dinner out.
Monday, the girls and I went shopping, swam and they their pictures taken. I'm really excited to get them back. They had 3 outfit changes and I just know they're going to turn out great. Oh and we had Pizza for dinner last night.
I didn't go to the gym Fri-Monday so yeah it was a really long weekend. I didn't want to go today either (especially after last Tuesday's incident with the instructor). But I did. I knew I would regret it if I didn't. So body pump, cycle and weigh in this morning. I got a great workout my triathlon is only 12 days away! I'm still in need of stuff (wetsuit, shoes and of course money) and trying not to worry. I'm sure it will all workout.
I weighed in today at 192. No loss to report, I wasn't expecting any after I ate as badly as I did this weekend and so carb heavy. Refocusing and I'll do better this week. I'm glad I was able to maintain.

I've been in a whirlwind winding down summer the last few days.
Sunday: Mariyn's triathlon. She did great and had a lot of fun. It was a short, course 50 yard swim, 1 mile bike, 1/2 mile run. Here she is with her finishers medal. She is already asking to do it again.

Monday we got up early and went to the beach. The girls and I had a great time in Santa Cruz and went to the boardwalk too. My mom came with us and on our way home we stopped by my aunts and visited. It was a really nice, but very quick visit. I didn't get home until after 2 a.m.
Tuesday, I spent trying to get my daughter organized and ready for school. I had a ton of laundry to fold and I still have a whole house to clean. We bought my mother in law a ticket to fly here this weekend. Aligiant air is having a great deal for only 10.99 each way (plus taxes and fees of course), so we had to take advantage of it. To top of the day, we had "Tide-gate" at our house. I was taking a short break from folding laundry and I noticed a fregrence in the air. It smelled clean and familiar. My keen instincts kicked in and told me it was WAY to quiet around here. I got up, and walked into the kitchen. I hear Amelia in our laundry room, saying "Help, I do it. I do it!" She had been doing laundry and spilled tide all over herself and the laundry room. I now had a thick mess of tide-goodness to clean up. Amelia went straight into the tub. God Bless her, she was trying too help. Too bad I don't have a rinse cycle for the entire laundry room. Would have been much easier to clean.
Mariyn was off to school this morning. So cute and enthusastic. Amelia and I were off to the gym. We ran errands all morning: preschool, library, doctors office twice. I did cycle at the gym. My first time being there at all this week. It's sort of a transition time for us, getting the kids back to school. I'm not sure what life is going to be like for the next week or so but hopefully, soon we will be back on track.

Full Weekend ahead
We've got a busy weekend planned and we kicked it off early. We took the girls to an Oakland A's baseball game on Friday night. It was a lot of fun and had a great fireworks show after the game. Plus, we got a great deal on tickets. Friday nights are family nights - $50 for 4 ticket, 4 meal (peanuts, pop corn and drinks). Not a bad deal! Amelia is in love with Dumbo right now and the A's mascot is an elephant - so she really enjoyed that! Mariyn said her favorite part was the fireworks but she really enjoyed the whole experience. Rich nor I have been to pro game in years. So while the A's may not be our favorite team, we too enjoyed going to a pro game. In case you're wondering. I don't eat hot dogs but I knew I was going to enjoy the ballpark food (code word for over eat) so I went to the gym earlier and made other good eating choices throughout the day.
Today, Saturday is the only day I really don't have much planned. Rich is working so I'm sure I'll spend the day close to home. I plan on taking the girls swimming and on a bike ride today. Then take Mariyn for a short run. Her triathlon is tomorrow. So I want her to be confident. I know she is very excited already. Unfortunately, I don't have a camera right now. The one I had was dropped and broke at my last 5K. :/ I'm thinking about breaking down and getting an Iphone. We shall see.
Mariyn starts school on Weds. So Monday is the last day we can really do anything and I want to do as much as we can with the amount of summer we have left. I'm hoping to get to the beach :) Either way, the weekend is going to be full of fun and very busy.

Holding Steady
I've been holding steady at my current weight for a while. I was optimistic earlier in the week that I was going to have a loss this week because I was running so much. I won't lie, I even snuck on the scale and seen it. LOL Yeah well, the weekend rolled around and my eating was bad, very bad. I really have nothing else to blame but myself and my lack of willpower right now. I'm looking forward to school starting and all the routine that comes with it. I'm hoping my dieting efforts will be better then. I have to admit, I am disappointed with my self and my eating habits. I was so diligent all last school year. Spring and summer came and they just started slipping up. I really wanted to be skinny when the kids went back to school. Yeah, I'm skinnier but really not at my goal where I wanted to be, where I could have been had I eaten better and not made so many excuses.
I did body pump and cycle this morning. My legs are already sore. I want to go for a run tonight but I might just go and do yoga. I've got dinner being made in the crock pot. BBQ Chicken sandwiches. I will be eating mine on an Orowheat thin. I'll probably make corn on the cob or asparagus too.
I know I didn't blog yesterday. I spent the morning finishing up school clothes shopping. The grand total is 10 dresses, 5 shirts, 2 tank tops, 3 skirts, 4 shorts, 5 pairs of leggings and 4 pairs of shoes. Mariyn is done - done done. I didn't think I had bought that much, until I showed my mom today. Mariyn didn't "summer clothes" this year so she needed a lot. She's grown so tall and most of her shorts are too short to wear in public. Plus she goes back to school on Weds. It's still going to be warm here for a long time. Shopping with her was so much fun. She looks cute in absolutely everything. We had very little put backs. Although, I notice this year her style is changing and she likes picking out her own things more than the things I (Uhhmm... her mom) suggests. I'm totally envious of her being able to look cute in everything, even though I am her mother. I can't tell you how many times I've left dressing rooms crying and upset because of the way clothes fit. Or didn't fit is more like it. Shopping with her was fun and easy.
Amelia got a few things too. She starts preschool next Friday. She got more clothes this summer than Mariyn did so she doesn't need much. I got her a couple of dresses. Amelia has been talking so much more this week too. Full sentances. :) and she used the potty for 5 days with no accidents. Today, day 6 she regressed and has had a few. Her behavior has been so good this week. Which made for easy shopping. ha ha Mariyn would not have gotten that much stuff had Amelia been her usual testy self. I'm looking forward to her speech tomorrow and being able to talk about the progress made.
So yeah, besides shopping I did do cardio kick yesterday. I need to add something more to my Monday routine but I'm not really sure what. It's hard to work out late Monday night and early Tuesday morning for my body pump and cycle routine. Must have gotten a good burn. Some days, I really wish I had a body bug just to watch my calories burn. Must be neat.
Oh and I did something spontaneous. I went to Macys.com this weekend and ordered some stuff for Mariyn. Yeah, I know you se Macey's and think expensive but I got great deals! I broke down and ordered this dress in redfor myself too! It was cheap, less than $14.00 and I bought a size Medium. Well have to see when it gets here if it *really* fits. Here is to hoping! I know I was being brave by getting a medium. Red is my favorite color though, so I hope it fits.
Here is to a better weigh in next week :)

7/28
Mariyn had her first sleep over at her friends last night. I had a hard time letting her go, we have had a no spending the night at friends policy but it was a slumber party for one of her very best friends. I know the family very well and I didn't want Mariyn to feel left out. So Rich and I let her.
Amelia got up early, as usual and came and woke me up with Chocolate syrup. She had been in the fridge poored herself a glass of milk and wanted her morning chocolate milk. Mind you, she is 3 had to climb to get the milk and the chocolate from the fridge. It was cute. Groggy, I felt she had spilled milk but even attempted her own mess. She is so dang cute.
After the milk incident, I got up and going. We made it to the gym for the 9:30 spin class. My body was extra tired this morning but I wasn't really sore. Now my legs are not only tired but sore. Especially my hips.
Amelia had speech and I think she is showing improvement. Tonight she said, "Dad it's time to eat" at dinner time. Huge progress for her! I bought the girls and I smoothies from Juice it Up today. So yummy. Then we went to the park and met up with my sister and nieces and nephews. My oldest niece told me, Auntie you're looking smaller. You lost weight; you look good." It's only been a few weeks since she's seen me. So sweet of her to compliment me even if the scale isn't showing weight loss at least I'm looking better.
For dinner, I made baked It was filling and good.Tonight, instead of running, I'm going to swim laps. I think it's best to give my legs a little break.

My little athlete
At last nights event, flyers for other activities were placed on my car. One of them was for the California kid's triathlon on August 8th. I cleaned out my car today bringing in several flyers. Mariyn picked them up and was looking at them talking to me about racing. I told her one of the flyers was for a kids race where you swim, bike and run in the same race. Immediately, she said, Cool, can I do it? Ahh warms my heart, my little athlete.
I asked her if she was sure she wanted to do it and talked to her about the distances. For her age it's a 50 yard swim, 1 mile bike and half mile run. I explained to her how many laps in our pool that would be then how far on the bike then how far she would have to run in terms (to places) she would understand like biking to school and back and running to her school. Of course, she would have to practice but I'm already training for my tri. She could easily tag along and train with me. Plus, her distances shouldn't be too fun. All participants get a medal and I know she thinks that is really cool.
I'm going to talk to her more about it and her dad but it looks like I have a future triathlete on my hands. After dinner, we went swimming and before I even got in the pool she swam 5 laps. I think she ended up swimming about 15 laps total. Soon, we will going biking as soon as we are done swimming just so she can see how it feels. I love my little athlete.
On a personal note, even though I slept most of the day, I swam 60 laps. 50 free style 10 back stroke.

Weds 7/21/10
So just when I think my unemployment is fixed -- it's not. But I think it might work out for the better. More details to come -- after I hopefully get a hold of them again tomorrow. It's a little frustrating but I think I actually qualify for a new claim. Whiich would take me off of the extension that I am currently on. We all hear about the delays in the extensions and whether or not congress is going to extend them. I hate being unemployed. I really wish I could find a job BUT I am so thankful for the income unemployment has provided my family. It really does give us peace of mind in paying our monthly obligations. I don't know how we would make it financially without it. God always provides for us though -- he knows the desires of my heart and provides for them.
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” – Psalms 37:4 KJV
Clare and I worked out today but we didn't do our usual weights and running. Clare actually had the day off, so we got to enjoy a spin class together, Dana's spin class. Totally kicked my butt - like always. Then I worked on my abs. Did 100 crunches w/ 10lbs weights on each side (obliques) and the center. So total of 300 crunches, plus about 2 and a half minutes of hovers. I was physically exhausted leaving them gym. Completely done and Clare was too.
Amelia had speech today. It went well, she can say all the words she just needs help combining them. She can say all her fruits and veggies, animals but will struggle saying "I see a cow!" or "I want a grape!" Those are the type of things she needs help with. We go back next Weds and I'm excited to see her progress.
Mariyn is really enjoying vacation bible school. The theme is (God's)Army of One. She really is taking to all the army talk -- Ohh-Rah, Attention, Salute, Fall in. LOL I'm really glad our friends invited her to VBS and that she is learning about the lord. I remember going to my Aunts as a kid and going to VBS was so much fun. We weren't raised in the church like my cousins. So VBS was really memorable for me. I even remember a really liking a song about Charity church mouse. It brings me a lot of joy knowing Mariyn is experiencing and learning about God in a fun atmosphere in a great church. I really need to start going back to church.
Back on the dieting note -- I've eaten well today. Protein shake for breakfast, PB&J w/ Cherries for lunch. I've snacked on a Fiber One yogurt (they are Good) and nectarines. I'm not sure what we are going to do for dinner. I forgot to defrost meat :X Opps! Hubby isn't home yet though and I know I should cook... what to cook what to cook.
ETA: Dinner terriyaki chicken, rice, mixed veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots). A healthy choice!
